Take the Subway and See: Fragrant Hills Park

Vincent R. Vinci theBeijinger 2024-03-03

Want to explore far off places over the CNY holiday without having to worry about booking a car or taking a train? Just take the subway! Over the break, we'll be showcasing a few scenic spots and historic sites situated at or near the end of three subway lines. All you've got to do to get there is hop on the subway and take it there.

Second Stop:
Fragrant Hills Park
香山公园
xiāngshān gōngyuán

What is it?

Fragrant Hills Park, or Xiangshan, was constructed as an imperial garden in 1186 during the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), and expanded in the Yuan and Ming dynasties. Today, it’s known as one of the best spots in Beijing for autumn scenery, but it provides fantastic views of the city below any time of year.

How to Get There by Subway

Hop on to Beijing Subway Line 10 and take it to Bagou Station (巴沟站 bāgōu zhàn) in the northwest. Then, transfer to the Western Suburban Line (西郊线 xījiāo xiàn) and take it all the way to Fragrant Hills Station (香山站 xiāngshān zhàn), which just so happens to be the terminus. From there, walk southwest until you reach the park ticket office.

Important info

Tickets are RMB 10 for adults and can be booked in advance on the official Fragrant Hills Park WeChat account (see link below and click on 门票购买 ménpiào gòumǎi to book). The park is open from 6am-7pm daily (last entry is at 6pm).
